Sorry, Dean, I didn't mean to snap at you...just kinda antsy abut Emily....

DAY TWO - Lock Haven -> Mill Hall -> Milesburg -> Bellefonte -> State College -> Lock Haven
I woke up the first day pretty late, and after a short visit with Dean's folks I went on a little "recon trip." The idea was to just take pics from the car, and see places here and there, a quick run through the towns to decide what I wanted to see more of the next few days. I grabbed the car and took off to the downtown streets of Lock Haven, PA, my first PA home.

On the drive there, I got hit with that first amazing shot of Bald Eagle mountain, running parallel along PA 150. One of the saddest things about photography is it just doens't really grab that grandeur of seeing a mountain running along side you. In Lock Haven, I puttered around but not for very long. I got a pic of the "skiing bunny rabbit" (Well, it looks like a skiing bunny rabbit from the ground), our old house, and my friend WEndi's.

From there, I ran off to Mill Hall, which has a really picturesque approach from the south, a creek that runs alongside the main road into town along a cluster of houses. I also went to the grocery store I first went to the evening I moved to PA. It's a wierd memory, but it's one of my memories. :)

From there I made my way to Milesburg, to take a few pics of places I went on my one day of work for Time Warner...Miles Burg is RIGHT in a pass in Bald Eagle Mountain, and along with Bellefonte are just incredibly neat looking places in the pass and hanging off the mountains. In Bellefonte, I got pics of the Railroad park, the 40% grades on the roads there, the house that is also an archway into a cemetary (How would you like to live in a room just above the road hearses use to access the cemetary?

I wanted to take pics of the academy building, but I was told that it burned down some months ago. Kinda glad really...it was a really grand old lady of a building that had been turned into a virtual slum, even if it was architecturally beautiful. It had really fallen on hard times.

After a few more shots I proceeded into State College, and was absoltuely delighted to see the old Starlite Drive-In was still up and running and showing first run movies. I hit the old shell of the World's Coolest Dunkin Donuts (It's dining area was REALLY huge, with fluffy couches and cofee tables and a MASSIVE HUGE Entertainment system in the middle...we'd go just for the movies :) ) and some nice pic of around the city.

There was a small problem. As I was taking pictured of the oriental store we used to go to, the owner decided I wasn't to take any pictures, and got in the way, telling me to get off his property. Granted, someone taking pics of business can be a strange thing, but he was out of line in how he handled things. I would have gladly left his property if he wasn't yelling so loudly at me and blocking my way out.

Anyways, I left, took pics of my old work, and took the pic of the oriental store from the red light next to the store. Screw you buddy!

After a few more pictures, it was getting late. Since I left state college, Interstate 99 had been built, and I decided to take it to get to Lock Haven ASAP. The old trip we took was via a very small tiny road that was a straight shot to Lock Haven. Lots of stops and slow speeds, took about an hour and a half. Via the freeway? 40 minutes! Wow. Seeing the familiar place names flying by at super speed was neat. :D

Once home, we spent some time trying to get online via a darned relay system. Dean's parents don't have tone dialing, just pulse. My laptop can do pulse just fine, as long as it's a direct dial. What we had was a need to dial out with pulse, and then have the computer dial the rest tone...especially since the phones in the house didn't have tone AT ALL, just rotary dials. So...what I did was pick up the phone in one room and dial the calling card number in pulse. as soon as it picked up, the computer blind dialed out the rest of the numbers in tone, and 50% of the time, it would connect through.

One quick surf and I was out like a light.

In lighter news, Emily is now on the ferry home, so she should be home in about an hour. :)
