dolariJust learned of the death of a distant-orbit friend...back in March. There was a lot going on in March, with Marisa passing away a few days before, but I'm crushed that the news didn't get to me.
Shane was one of the few people in my life who had enough faith in my comics to "adopt" me into Houston Comics portion of Zine Fest Houston, despite me being from Austin. I dropped out because, at the time, I was trying to make a living on comics, and the zines were always busts for me. We stayed in contact, but it was always in a distant-orbit. A friend I didn't see or contact often, but we talked a lot and caught up when we did.
And how did Shane Patrick Boyle die? His GoFundMe fell $50 short and he couldn't buy insulin. He died of a completely treatable disease...but because he couldn't divvy up the cash, he died.
There's a good chance I will die the same way he did. I wish I hadn't learn of his passing in this way....
