I sometimes wonder where I would be now if I wasn't trans, male or female. I've put so much energy and effort into it since I started this journey in the early 90s.
I know I would have finished college as it was the first victim of Transition Or Die. I lived fairly lightly in the late 90s to early 2000s as I saved up for my transition, only for it to be wiped out in the Dot Com crash. Same with the late 2000s, when all that got wiped out with the Great Recession (it was a Depression, you can't tell me otherwise). And there was all the moving in order to keep my transition going when outside forces tried to stop it.
But there's also all the good it's done. I've met amazing people, gone places and seen cultures I likely never would have met if I'd not transitioned. My comics and art, and now my writing, which were always a priority, were honed because of my transition.
I don't know if I would have been better off not being trans. But it would have definitely been different.
