I give up on the fruit flies. I've tried getting rid of them over and over again, and they find something else to live on over and over again. I clean and wash and clean and wash and trash and wash and bleach and scald and bleach and they're still everywhere, and getting into new food.

I give up. I can't do anything more to get rid of them. :P

One thing that works is to put some apple cider vinegar in a shallow bowl, cover the bowl with saran wrap, and punch holes in the wrap. The flies are attracted to the vinegar, find their way through the holes, then are too confused to get back out. They'll drown in open bowls of vinegar, too, but the smell from that is a little too much. (The market where I buy fruit does that--open bowls--and it works.)

You live in a part of the country where insects don't freeze solid and drop to the ground half the year. I don't miss that. (I grew up in Tulsa.)

Beer works too. Same proceedure basically, only you can keep it uncovered if you don't mind the smell...
