Jenn's last few days in review - Short version.
Woke up, rolled over to desk, turned on CNN, drew, turned off CNN, rolled back to bed, slept.

I finally, FINALLY managed to finish the pencilling for Friday's guest strip down. Between FTOF, TC, CS and AWFW (I did draw panelsfor both, but trashed them when I realized I couldn't get everything in on time), I've just had no time for anything else. The TC panels aren't inked or colored, but to be honest, pencilling is what kills me. The finished TC strip should be delivered tomorrow for a Friday delivery. The next guest strip isn't due till the 19th, so I have a good long wait on that one, but I'm going to use the time to make it look really special. LEAD TIME IS IMPORTANT. :)

Something that helps is I'm in CNN Junkie Mode. Being near a constant feed of news during a crisis helps me keep my butt in the seat and working. It started on Sunday evening, listening to Art Bell do an overnight show about Hurricane Katrina. His show was a little more doom'n'gloom than most everyone else I was listening, but that's to be expected - it's Art Bell.

He was talking about us "Losing a city" and "New coastlines" and such. If there's anything I've learned from the ten years of listening to him, is to take everything on that show, and turn the exaggeration level WAY down.

After his show went off the air, I watched CNN for a few hours, and saw the completely unexpected veering off of the eye to the east, which I thought was an amazing stroke of luck. I finally got to bed as folks on CNN and CBS were saying "Wow, we're going to be okay! We'll have water back in a day, and electricity in a few hours!" SO I went to bed thinking everything was going to be mostly okay, at least for New Orleans.

I woke up to hear, though, that the levees had broken, and Lake Pontchartrain was flowing into the city. Oi. I went to bed with a feeling of relief and woke up seeing the city flooding, and hearing that the French Quarter was going. Oi. I wtched all night, and just felt terrible for the whole southeast. Looks like Art was right after all. It's creepy hearing things like "Schools will reopen in two months" "electricity will be restored in six weeks" "we have to let the city flood before we can really make sure the levees are fixed" and so on. I went to New Orleans in 84 for the World's Fair, and got to see as much of the French Quarter as 10 Year Olds are allowed to see. Hope it'll still be there when and if I Ever go back.

The last few days haven't been all Hurricane. I've been sharing Sifl and Olly videos with Emily, who seems to be enjoying them. I relived the entire run before Katrina became The Big Thing. Oh, man, I've missed that show. It needs to be put back on public access, or be direct to DVD. The audience is there, and it hasn't really gotten dated. :)

And bring back Futurama while you're at it.
