dolariTurns out, she's the transgender daughter of a local...and everyone in town remembers Marlene as Martin, one of the stars of the local high school football team.
Humor arises from the town's residents attempts to adjust to adopt her as Marlene, making good-natured mistakes in trying to get used to her gender, and them generally accepting her as best they can while defending her from the more comically-stubborn-but-obviously-wrong elements of the town.
Not that I've lived this or anything. I was never a football star.
