While researching the Oregon Trail trip, I started finding things to see and do on the trip. Lots of historical markers and sites. And the farther west I began hoping the more markers I saw for Indian massacres and depredations and whatnot.

Knowing friends who are native, and even that I'm descended from Natives, has really changed my views on a lot of these events. To the point that I began thinking that driving the Oregon Trail might be honoring something that killed so many of my friends ancestors, and maybe even my own.

For a time I felt that driving it would maybe at least settle my own issues with my race and "culturation." Something to settle the two sides.

For a time, I considered not going at all.

Today I saw this quote by Santanta...

"I don’t want to settle; I love to roam over the prairie; I feel free and happy; but when we settle down we get pale and die."

He was talking about his tribe being locked into a reservation. I felt, personally, that it was a reason for my wanderlust.

I'm going do the trip.
