Compared to the previous Sci-Fi Theater show it replaced (Battlestar Galactica 78/80 and Buck Rogers) Space: 1999 is a SLOW burn.

First-season Space: 1999 is definitely a slow burn. More horror than space opera. Second season moved from horror to action-adventure, when I think back on it.

You know, I never really thought about Space:1999 being more horror than Sci-Fi, but it really is.
