Fun Fact: Years ago, my mother, my sister and I went to the Capitol. We went through the metal detectors, had our bags x-rayed , spent some time in the different chambers and galleries, visited the Capitol Bathroom cause, you know, why not...and when we got home later that night, we realized that Mom had a gigantic serrated bread knife in her bag that no one found (we had a picnic lunch, and she had the knife for sandwich rolls).

So security there hasn't really gotten better since the late 80s.

If they saw the knife, they saw the picnic lunch too, right?

Otherwise, I got nothing.

I've been to Parliament Hill's Centre Block three times in my life so far. All of them were to pay respects to politicians already dead before I got there, because said politicians were worthy of some degree of respect.

Security protocols for those occasions were likely far looser - even in the most recent instance - than is now standard.
