So the other day, I posted a picture of an Arch Linux-tan, mentioning that Arch was my favorite flavor of Linux. But that really got me thinking...I really don't USE it anymore.

Why?

Incompatibility mostly. My main PC would freeze with it after just a few minutes. My laptop's keyboard and mouse would slow down, then freeze. I worked with it quite a bit, but in the end, Windows 10 just worked. So I moved back.

But then it hit me. Arch is hard. Really hard. It's bare bones, and you build it yourself, which I loved. But what if I did it BACKWARDS? Take a full fledged OS and whittle it DOWN instead of a bear bones one, and build it UP? So I decided to try out Linux Mint on the laptop. It was a full fledged XFCE4 style OS.

I installed it on the laptop and right out of the box, it just worked. No real tweaking or fixing to get it up and running (a small video issue that was fixed by switching to a different compositor).

The PC though was another matter. Linux Mint on THAT froze just like Arch Linux did. Anytime I a video would play or I got near the volume control. I was thinking of tearing the PC down to bare bones and building it back up until it froze, but decided to just take out the Nvidia video card since the PC came with an Intel one. And that was it!

There were other problems that got fixed, like the network card not working, and still problems like my TV card and video encoder not working (And the tablet)...but I can flip back to Windows for that if I need to.

As much as I'd like to make Linux my only OS, I think I'll be okay with making it my MAIN OS.

Really liking Mint so far, and I learned enough about Linux through Arch to super customize it the way I like.
