After only four hours of sleep, I got up and made my way to Samantha's house for the Great Tolkien Feed-Off Movigasm, getting there about 7PM or, midway through the Two Towers.
First person I met out on the porch was the INCREDIBLY funny Andy who seems to be completely be brought to tears by saying the word "Bollywood." After going inside, I said my helloes, and found out that no matter where I may go these days, I have fans. Hi, Shannon. :) I got back in touch with Erin and Marca, but I met and said hello to a lot more of y'all. There were so many, I can't list you all here withouth it becoming a movie credit sequence.... :) So, Hi, everyone.
I spent most of my time in the kitchen with Samantha, Michael, Shayla and her boyfriend, just chatting and noshing on almond pancakes and cheese/spinach pies. While I love LOTR, I've seen it a bit too much recently, so I decided to draw the final three panels of CS while ROTK was on, but it was much too dark to draw. I moved to a lit halway where I could draw up some fan art (in this case, art for a fan) and 1.5 panels before deciding I was gonna move back into the kitched. At disc two, I watched the rest of ROTK.
After it was all over most of us said our goodbyes, and the rest gathered in a circle in the living and caught up with each other. Marca, Erin, Andy, Shannon, Samantha and me talked until the wee hours of the morning, and, being the only real night person there, I saw the party to the end, and turned out the lights when I left (figuratively, there hadn't been a light on in the house for hours).
To be honest, I'm really surprised at by how much I DIDN'T wallflower this time around. I spent my time away from the crowd, but only because I was saving the movie time till later, and drawing in the hallway. I think the two Trinocs have broken my shell open a lot.
If there's something I hate about being a night person, it's how much I miss these people I already know, and how much I'll miss the ones I've just met. :)

Date: 2005-10-17 05:30 pm (UTC)Seriously though, I think the conventions really opened me up a bit, and fed me some serious confidence I wwas lacking. I have a really bad problem that I need to get over. I don't take compliments and reassurances from friends very well. My head tells me "They're your friends and family, they're obligated to feed you these lines, so they're obviously just humoring you." When it came from people I just never knew, my head couldn't fight that off by saying "They're expected to say that."
And now when my friends treat me well, and boy was I treated well this weekend, and give me compliments and kudos, I really "Feel" them now, where before I felt they were "just saying it."
I hope I don't come across as an egomaniac for saying that (self-confidence may be up, but my self-reassurance don't work for shit), but it took a lot of people I didn't know who said "your friends were right" for me to actually realize it.
::hugs::
