Back in the 90s and early 2000s, I used to buy bleeding edge computers and then grind them into the ground. This computer is a little underpowered then I'd like (losing the NVidia video card and moving to Linux has caused some slowdown). I have the cash to get another bleeding edge computer again, and I'm considering picking it up.

But should I? In the 90s and 2000s, I was BIG into PC Gaming, emulation and whatnot. Now, not so much...but if I get something overpowered, it could last a REALLY long time if I run it until the screws strip off.

Getting a lower powered machine, but high end "non-gaming" machine would upgrade my system, but how long until I need to upgrade again?

Is it worth buying bleeding edge and running it into the ground hoping to get a LOT of years out of it? Or buying more reasonable systems, but having to cycle them out more often?

Thoughts?
