GAME OVER!
Oct. 24th, 2005 10:04 amDrive F is officially hosed. All the duplicate files that ate up the remaining space won't delete in Windows, won't delete on a reboot, won't delete in Recovery Console, and won't delete in Knoppix.
Wow. Whatever hosed it, hosed it good. HOWEVER, all the backups ARE accessable, and are all being copied to the main hard drive. Anything that wont fit will be burned to DVD (wow, I hope I have enough), and then the drive'll be wiped but good and reinstalled.
If this was FAT32, I coulda just dropped to DOS and deleted the files there...bastard. I should just reinstall DOS 6.22, subdivide my drive into 40 drives and live as an internet hermit. :)
165 minutes remaining.
LUCY! Please call before coming over. I prolly won't be up by 5PM, but I'll try to be up before it's too late.

Date: 2005-10-24 03:21 pm (UTC)I had suffered through a couple of BSODs this weekend. This morning, the system froze, BSODed, and rebooted. When it came back up, I got a nice nifty keen error.
Disk read error
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
I'm going to put it through a WD diagnostic this evening... but in any event, it looks like I'll be getting new hard drives for this machine.

Date: 2005-10-24 07:07 pm (UTC)1. I don't have your phone number
2. My BF refuses to make another trip into Austin today.
Options:
1. Plan to pick it up before my appointment next Monday (around 6:00 a.m.)
2. Have you bring it out tonight - we fill your tank with gas and your stomach with dinner.

Then again, Windows NT still wouldn't you access it directly.
Use a Knoppix CD? I don't know how far along FSCK for NTFS is; last time I had a machine with both operating systems that I used both in (probably the only), DOSFSCK was still alpha and NTFS support was almost nonexistent -- MS really should have documented NTFS a lot better -- it's the only real problem I have with the format, even if it's not as good as ext3, ReiserFS, et c. -- better documentation means more tools for it for Windows, not just support in other operating systems. I wonder how far ReactOS has gotten with cloning it...
SL, who is back onto the non-disintegrating notebook that locks up (doesn't matter how solid the OS is when the hardware lacks up) that is running something between (K)Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog, (K)Ubuntu Wheezy Weasel, and Debian Sid... he's almost completely used to the transition now, although the same IM client, same office suite, same look to the windowing system, same graphics application, et c. make it easier to forget he's not running NT 5.0 anymore...
