Working on my Star Trek: The Motion Picture script project thingy with some new stuff I've gotten in the last couple of months or so, and it's surprising just how much this movie has had to be revised to get to the final Director's Edition.

I mean, most movies have a gestation period, or a development hell, but this was something in between. Not counting Trek projects that weren't TMP specific....

1) Story treatment: July 31, 1977
2) First Draft Script: October 20, 1977
3) Second Draft Script: November 7, 1977
4) Another draft in Late November 1977
5) [Maybe a draft or two in this space]
6) ANOTHER draft on February 4th, 1977
7) Revised Draft: May 17th, 1978
8) Shooting Script: July 19, 1978
9) A TON of revisions in this space....
10) Theatrical Release: December 6, 1979
11) "Special Longer Version" release: February 20, 1983
12) 2001 Director's Edition: November 6, 2001
13) 2022 Director's Edition: April 5, 2022

The movie is finally finished 44 years later (although the theatrical release was only a smidge over two years later), but...

...it's a long road, getting from there to here.

(I didn't start writing this with a punchline in mind, but I'm not gonna waste one when it presents itself)
