Nov. 6th, 2022 09:26 pmYou know the vibes I'm getting from this whole Twitter buy-out? When WWF bought out WCW.
WCW had been on the rocks for a while, looking for a buyer. At the very very end, WWF came in and bought the company. The night, they had a live show, and the show was run by the WCW folks, under the supervision of WWF producers. What we got was a WCW show, with a few WWF promos.
When the show ended, agents at WWF began planning the future of WCW. Contracts were being negotiated and WCW branded shows being planned. The idea was a good faith "let's move forward with WCW under our management." Then Vince McMahon and his ego came in and wrecked those plans, burying WCW for the time being.
When it did come back, it quickly became the Vince McMahon show. He tried an "Invasion" angle that completely was wrecked by his ego again, and quickly became the McMahon Family Feud where WCW (end ECW) didn't matter, because it was all about him and his family.
And in the end, it all fizzled away.
This feels very much like Twitter's situation now. Guy buys it, can't keep his ego shut, and will run it into the ground by Ruling From On High instead of letting the people around him (or the people still involved with Twitter) run the show.
