One of the things I did before all the layoff stuff went down was get rid of my cable service. I don't watch enough TV to really keeps it, and I found a place where my antenna gets all the channels I need (I just use local TV for local news).

The nice thing is, I don't use the TV as a my TV. The signal goes into my TV card on my PC. Which actually allows you to stream it anywhere in the house. It works BETTER than my cable service!

Onyl downside is I don't get CBC anymore. But I only watched the news on CBC, and they put that on YouTube.

As you mentioned most of the news from CBC is online. You can also get a CBC Gem subscription that has the CBC News livestream in addition to on-demand access to all of their programming. It is $4.99/month with a month trial for free when you sign up. Without premium, which is a free account, you can access the local CBC channels online, so you can always time the news as well without having to pay a fee. At least get access to CBC.

I'm trying to remember if Gem is geo-fenced...?

Oh, that's a *very* good question. I've not tried to use mine outside of Canada ever so I cannot help answer.

Probably a good choice, then.
