I gotta say, about Picard Season 3 - I'm talking about with friends, trying to figure out plot points and enjoying (and occasionally complaining) about the show, but always ready for next week.

That hasn't happened for me since the Deep Space 9 days....

Noticing that the show-runner, Terry Matalas, is publicly exalting one of his current favourite bits of fan-fiction inspired by Trek. How's that for a sign of the times?

I dunno about Gene Roddenberry. I know Geordi La Forge is named after a TOS Trek Fan, George La Forge. He would have been a lot more silent (and maybe take a bit more advantage of it).
