So...Saturday I stayed awake 22+ hours or so so that I'd wake up nice and Early Sunday Morning. I didn't expect to be up at 4AM. That was TOO early, but my body refused to sleep any longer. So I used the time to get ready for the Comic Jam and the long trip ahead of me to Huoston. Checked the oil, got some gas, cleaned up, got dressed and gathered my stuff.

I don't pass very well, and I would be traveling in East Texas, so I figured it was probably best not to drink anything all morning long so I could go straight to Houston without worrying that I would have a screaming woman getting me arrested somewhere in between. However, I forgot something - I didn't have any breakfast. Just on the other side of Elgin I get really hungry. I managed to pull into a McDonalds and grab a McRib meal thing that comes with a small Coke.

Big mistake.

For some reason a small 12 ounce Coke comes out in a 2 gallon torrent, and I knew I was at the one gallon mark in Brenham, which is roughly the halfway point between Austin and Houston. So I figure I can make it into Houston, and worry about that there. I get to Hempstead and that Coke has decided to call all it's friends in the county to jump on my kidneys. So I decide that a ruptured bladder is probably worse than jailtime, and pull into a Jack in the Box in Waller.

I walk in get into the women's room where there are four women waiting to use the stall. I decide it's best to not stick around and maybe wait outside, where they don't have a lot of time to scan me over and see everything that gives me away. Just as I walk out the door, I hear a little six year old yell "Mommy, that was a man!"

Somehow, in the next ten seconds, I was in the truck and on my way to Houston. I don't remember turning the ignition.

I did managed to get most of the way into Houston, and found a crowded McDonalds where I was able to spend a a million pennies.

I finally did manage to get to Super Happy Fun Land a half hour before the Comics Jam was supposed to start, and a Super Happy Fun Land it is! It's a collection of two houses transformed by a four person commune into a Keep Yourself Amused room filled with photocopied hand drawn comics, art on the wall, books, toys, and board games EVERYWHERE. It would be very very very hard to be bored in that place.

I met two of the folks who owned it and one of the other Comics Jam people, but the actual jam didn't start until much much later when everyone arrived. First it was Jenni who thankfully gave me someone to lean on comedy wise (and got me a Huge Bag od Coffee Crisp!). We make a good team, Jenni. :) Then came Shane, who headed up the Jam, with Melanie who was the only one there who was specifically a fan of my comics. We all compared sketches, I drew three panels in the jam comic, and once Will arrived, we all went out to dinner at Chapultepec Lupita where I had grasshoppers, at least according to the menu.

The entire day was spent mostly with Jenni, Will, and myself just visiting more than drawing, and at about 10PM, I began to feel really tired, so we said our goodbyes and I took off.

I should have left earlier, because in Hemphill, I had to pull over and nap for 15 minutes. ..then again in Brenham...than fell asleep for an hour at a picnic area outside of Giddings. Funny thing is, as long as my doors are locked and the windows are up, I feel uber safe in that truck. :)

(The bathroom issue came up again, but, well, it was 1AM, and I know the backroads of Bastrop County REALLY well.)

I got home at 1:45, finished up the christmas card comic (After the hour nap I couldn't sleep) and finally collapsed for a 12 hour snooze....

It was definately an experience. :)

The thing about kids that age is that (most of them) have just finished learning all the gender rules, and being beat over the head about observing them, so are eager to show they are with the program. It isn't the fault of the kids, but of the people who teach them all that binary sex and gender stuff.
