Seen in today's classifieds: "Must be customer service oriented & join our church upon employment."

(Update: it should be said that this is an classified ad for a Baptist Church)

Texas is one of those ironically named "Right to Work" states. Aka "We can fire you for any reason under the sun and you gotta take it."

Ah yes, silly me. Should've realized that about Texas

I bet if they tried that here in NYC it'll be the top story of the nightly news and there'll be some big protests all around.

Oddly enough, I can see this ad being acceptable in the Korean communities

Even so, this isn't legal in Texas or anywhere else in the US. They're essentially refusing to hire a Hindu or a Muslim, or a Presbyterian for that matter, and that violates federal law about discrimination (here I'll pause to give you a chance to laugh hysterically) which supersedes the state's laws on the matter.

In theory.

>(here I'll pause to give you a chance to laugh hysterically)

As someone who was laughed out of an EEOC office, I'm bowled over in stitches. Only in Texas can the Feds take a backseat to the state....

At least I found someone later who would at least investigate the case, even if nothing could be done. He was all into "We can't help, but this'll get their panties in a bunch."

Many weird things...

Wot kind of church do you think it could be? one of those crazy snakehandling churches? the CoS? some random death cult?

I hate 'right to work', I think louisiana is one of those also.

Yeah - "Right to Work" is a euphemism for "Employer Can Screw You Without Cause".

Hey, I jujst thought of this, and don't know if you have and such, so I thought I'd mention it. HAve you looked at Google. It'd mean a move, it looks like, if you got any kind of job, but some of them are in Seattle and Canada, etc.

...that in most States in Australia, that advert would be illegal? Mind you, it cuts both ways. Certain religious groups got exemption from anti-discrimination groups for refusing trans-women accommodation at Women's Hostels run by them.
