Woke up this morning with a start to the refridgerator repair guy AGAIN. I didn't get much sleep so I was really kind of out of it. He comes in to fix the fridge and replaced the piping that was giving the fridge so many problems. However, another problem came up - the freezer motor was siezed up. So he went to open the freezer's back panel...

...only to have a ton of roach droppings fall pretty much on his head. He calmly got up, washed his hands with what we had on hand, told me "this fridge's warranty is way void" and promptly left.

Meedless to say, our fridge is still dead. And the guy left the panel open specifically so we could grab our landlord by the nose and point him to the fridge and say: LOOK. LOOK HERE. THIS IS WHY WE NEED A NEW FRIDGE. DAMMIT.

With that over, it came time to pick up something I'd been looking forward to for the whole weekend:

They turned out BEAUTIFUL! Absolutely gorgeous! The colors are really rich, and the banding wasn't the problem I thought it was going to be. Again, like the prints I made for Trinoc, I got this incredibly proud feeling of "I MADE THIS. THIS IS MINE. WOW." I have my poster sitting over in the corner, and I keep looking back at it. IT's a nice feeling, to know that it got made.

From there, we went to the apartment (after FOUR, COUNT THEM, FOUR near misses between Burnet Road and Great Hills Trail!). We finished up the packing, cleaned house, and I bid goodbye to my room. I really felt warm and welcome there, and it was a shame to leave.

Once here we unpacked, and I went about fixing my computer. The computer problems went from bad to worse yesterday. I disassembled the computer, epoxied the heatsink to the 845 chip no problem. But when I went to put the motherboard back in, one screw went in crooked and refused to pull out. I managed to get it out but when I used a new screw to screw it back in, it went right in, no problems...then the head twisted right off. EEK. Then as I was pulling the motherboard out, the edge of the board caught the chassis fan. The fan is held on by four rubber "nails." They promptly ripped in half.

So tonight, I managed to replace the motherboard mounting screw, but stripped my fingers of flesh trying to get some of those plastic ties to hold the fan in place. They're doing quite well, and should hold up for a good while.

And whoever thought that designing the front panel plugs as individual one-pin sockets needs to be shot.

I will be in San Antonio tomorrow, so there may not be a comic. If I can make one, I will, but no promises.

And now we're here. Bedtime for Jenn Jenn. I'll try to get those posters out Friday.

Hi Jenn,

As disgusting as it sounds, the roach droppings probably explain your allergies. Many people are allergic to a protein the roaches produce. Here's a Google link for roach allergies: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=roach+allergies&btnG=Google+Search

And on a an unrelated note to that (thank goodness ;o), the poster looks great!

Well, you can always come up here, too. It's a ways out but still nearer than San Antonio, and with less stress.

LOTS less stress.

Hey there - That's a nice print. (You don't know me, but I'm a Texas digital print head - that's what I do for a living in SA). I'd recommend Speedpro in Austin, give Holly a call sometime, 444-4421 - they do great poster printing, and they can put them on foamcore, gatorfoam, laminate, the whole bit.

Peace,
Reodd

Howdy fellow San Antonian! Where were you last week when I was trying to find places to call? :D The yellow pages really don't help much, to be honest. :)

I ended up going to Kinko's for these. They were the cheapest, and I already knew what quality I'd get (I worked the Computer Services Department when I was there (aka Digital Imaging). I'll give speedpro a call next time I print some up.

Gonna open up a shop in Austin? Where do I send my resume? ;)

Actually I was moving last week - that and doing lots of marketing seminars, doh! Yellow pages for digital printing don't really do much for sales - most of it is business to business. Kinko's tends to run a bit more pricey than we do.

We already have a shop in Austin, it's been around for about 2 years. Their website is www.speedproaustin.com it's a little goofy, but the people there are top notch. I know alot less about our places in Dallas and Houston, but I have trained with everyone in Austin several times.

Holly is their marketing person, but she's on vacation - Steve is the owner and is as honest as they come. They're running 1440 dpi solvent prints - I encourage you to check them out. If you're looking for a job, I don't know if they have the need for another person, but I know we're always keeping an eye open for sharp folks, feel free to ask Steve about it. His email is the contact on the main page.

Cheers,
Adam(from Speedpro SA)

Cool poster!

At least something is going right!

You know, the last fridge I had, had actually been rescued for free from an old artillery range. Someone had dumped it there the day before. It leaked a bit, but lasted for 15 months.

However, my current fridge is from a local white goods shop. They repaired the washing machine I got from them for free, so I went back for a fridge as well. Best fridge I've ever owned!
