Next on CSI: Animal Cops....
Mar. 21st, 2006 08:58 amYou can always tell I have a big post coming up, cause I end up posting memes to procrastinate....
Rules:
Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 2a: When the title is in the first line of the song, post the next one....
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

First lines that I have, and note that most of these are albums, and in one case the entire album is one suite in 4 movements, two vinyl LPs, and 81 minutes. I also have a bit less than 20. All are technically Rock. As one has no words I identify it, but it's an anomaly. The most recent is from the late 1980s; most are from the late 60s to mid 70s.
I'm never in the situation the rules are assuming. 8)
1: Stand and fight we do consider, reminded of the inner fight between us, that sees as we go [single movement? not sure. 21:54]
2: [no lyrics and not the same genre as the rest: A Shot in the Dark by Jimmie Haskell and his Orchestra. It's also unbelievable shorter than the rest: 2:08]
3: Blasting, billowing, bursting forth with the power of ten billion butterfly sneezes; Listen, hear the sound the child awakes; Floating free as a bird sixty foot leaps it's so absurd; I'm gonna sit and watch the web that you will build this day; [SONG TITLE]; Gazing past the planets looking for total view; A [SONG TITLE] of a strange and distant time traveling in panic, all direction blind; Hark, listen here he comes; Something you can't hide says you're lonely; [SONG TITLE] look at the view; [variant of SONG TITLE]; [SONG TITLE] for a friend to play with [album, 40:20]
4: Cold and misty morning, I heard a warning borne in the air [three movements, 29:38]
5: It's ten minutes past curfew. Why are you sill up? (spoken); For a price I'll do my living except pull the trigger for that I'd need a pretty good cause; It just takes a minute and you'll feel no pain; They've given me a mission -- don't really know the game; She always brings me what I need; In the wooden chair beside my window I wear a face born in the falling rain; Kill her. That's all you have to do. (spoken); I've had enough and I WANT OUT! (spoken); Anybody home? Mary? (spoken); They told me to run, but just how far?; I awoke on impact under surveillance from the camera eye searching high and low; Empty room today and here I sit; All alone now except for the memories of what we had and what we knew [album, length I have is misleading]
6: Dawn of light lying between a silence and sold sources chased amid fusions of wonder [suite, 4 movements, 80:52, and considered rather notorious in its day -- it was still a big seller from preorders alone, before the nature of the album was widely known]
SL, singing along:
Getting over overhanging trees let them rape the forest
They might stand and leave them clearly to be home
Getting over wars we do not mean we charm the movement suffers
Call out all our memories clearly to be home...

Date: 2006-03-22 04:57 am (UTC)(4) - Emerson Lake And Palmer - Karn Evil 9 (from Brain Salad Surgery, circa 1973)
(5) - Queensrÿche - Operation Mindcrime (circa 1988, running time approx. 58 minutes iirc)
Wow, I'm better at this stuff than all that newfangled mp3 stuff.

Date: 2006-03-22 04:31 am (UTC)Every day.
One day in desperation I tried to alter the words as I was moving about the office (if I was in the store/warehouse I would have been partly out of earshot).
It's Armageddon to-night! Da da da!
Cities are frying to-night! Da da da!
The Sky is falling to-night! ...
I immediately hunted down a pencil and paper and started writing down stanzas. Almost everyone who's heard the song immediately thinks [Comedy Tonight?] from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
I need to get back to that album and get it into releasable shape one of these years. I haven't done any tinkering on it since September 2001, and that was after years of letting it gather dust. Downside of realizing the political ideas you held when you wrote an arguable masterpiece (nearly 15 years ago) were naieve. It needs a LOT of rework, and some of the best parts may need to be abandoned.
