Local comic book store is hiring. I put in a resume, but it's a LONG shot.

Cons: I haven't bought a comic book since 1997, and that was a special occasion. I stopped buying them in 1993 after The Bad Event at the store I worked at. Since then I've been out of the "geek circles" but have seeped back into them since I started my own comic.

Pros: I have experience working at comic shops. I know how to do comic shop paperwork.

It won't be very good pay, and may even be part time - but it'll pay the bills if I get it.

It is really surreal to say "Happy Mother's Day" to your highschool friends...

...Emily is 13! THIRTEEN! Gods, I'm old....

[Update: My friend's little girl is named Emily. :) I'm not in love with a 13 year old. My Emily is very legal. Even in Canada! :D ]

Dang it. I hate it when my account arbitrarily logs me out.

Anyway, the anonymous one was me.

Good luck with that comic shop thing. Experience should definitely put you in good stead.

I'll admit I haven't been into a comic shop in a long time (most of which that I saw were claustrobhobically small, dusty maze-like archives of back-issues and unsold Star Wars Episode One merchandise), and when I did go to them, I still felt out of place...I was the one buying all the Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics and some manga. (I never was a big superhero fan, and little of that "small press" stuff grabbed me.) Although now I'd REALLY feel out of place since going full time, as I didn't see many girls or women in comic book stores. I'm not as big a comic reader as I was before; all the manga starts looking the same to me now, but I do still pick up the occasional Disney trade paperback through Amazon.com, such as Don Rosa's "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck".

The shop I originally worked at wasn't claustrophobic in the slightest. In fact, we arranged the comic boxes we sold into a "horseshoe" setup like the bridge of the Enterprise and put a chair in the middle. :)

And I hear you on the "not wanting to do it after transition" but as my roomie is fond of saying: "Even a freak has to eat."

I am just speaking for myself there...I am the easily self-concious sort...even before transition I felt out of place...just about everywhere, actually! And yes, eating = good ^_^

...and I just remembered: At least one comic store I used to frequent was run by a (very normal) woman. OOPS! on my part! I'm getting forgetful in my old age...

Oh, before you updated, there were so many comments I could make. ;-)
