Level Up! Literally. Today after complaining that I wasn't getting much "oomph" behind my pedals, I raised my seat a good two inches. The problem I'd been having was I'd pedal, but it was a LOT of effort to push the pedals down. I figured it was just all the weight I'd gained since I last got on the bike back in the...wow...20th Century.

After a while, the pedaling never got easier, so I started thinking that maybe I wasn't getting good leverage on the pedals. I pulled the seat up a good two inches and while now it's a little harder to actually GET on the bike, suddenly, each pedal push is FLYING me forward.

I was riding down a road and noticed my legs getting tired. I figured I wasn't used to the new seat, but I was still getting good power behind the pedals. I figured maybe I was just pushing a few muscles that hadn't ben pushed in a while...but when I turned aqround, suddenly I was goin down hill. With the amount of "push" I had now, it didn't even register I was going up hill. ROCK.

In more mundane news - I mowed the lawn using an new old-style lawn mower. Wow, they're NICE. It's just as hard to push a motor lawnmower, and you don't need any gas or oil. And in 90 degree heat, you lose weight. :) The only down thingy about it is it doesn't cut grass if it's taller than 4 inches.

In art news, I've made the new wallaper for June, an AWFW themed one. Hopefully it'll be more popular than the May one (Not a single donation! :( )

The way i've always been told to bike is have your leg ALMOST fully extended on the side with the "low" pedal. You should also never go tighter than a 90 degree angle on the "high" pedal. You'll get used to mounting it real quick.

From riding on the exercise bikes at the gym lately i've noticed that not only do you get less leverage with a low seat, but it uses different muscles too. Another thing you can try is leaning forward like an sport cyclist vs sitting up straight. I find leaning forward is easier on the legs when you're on a long ride, probably because your upper-thigh doesn't need to stretch as much. It does seem to work the calves differently, though.

I need to get a new seat for my bike so I can ride it around without feeling like I am getting a rectal exam with a shovel.

Great job getting back on the bike (p.s. I TOTALLY want a recumbent). Just reminds me how badly I need to start back on my DDR regimen.
