Comics Updated! - AWFW - CS - Or here if the RSS feed hasn't caught up..

I'm a little unhappy with how this came out. It prolly should have been a six panel comic, with more emphasis on Jack telling them to stop. I wanted Lindy to be a voice of reason, but I think she comes across as "Cute Kid Pushed to the Side to Buy Some Cheap Heat."

Saturday
Saturday I slept badly, which was okay! It meant I was up in time to go on the Hyde Park Homes Tour and get to dabble around in other people's bedrooms.

The first stop was the Elisabet Ney museum, a stone fortress in the middle of a large park in the middle of Hyde Park. It has something I demand be built in my house. The fortress is basically a gigantic one room studio on the first floor, as well as a second side room. A third room isn't so much a room as it's a stairwell into the second floor. The second floor is a large bedroom, and an open hallway. But in the tiny corner of the second floor is a tight spiral staircase leading into a tiny tiny tiny study. Enough room for two people, or three if they're friendly. It's not more than eight feet square, with an itty bitty fireplace, hooks to hang a hammock, and a bookshelf that doubles as a set-in door to the roof.

My house shall have this. Oh, yes, it shall.

The other houses were very very very nice, most being bungalos of sometype that had been modified to works of art. Many of these bungalo houses were almost exactly like my grandmother's house, except that instead of having money thrown at them, my grandparents barely got by fitting 16 kids into the house.

I wouldn't really like houses like these, though. They're much too big. But I'd like an ENTERTAINING house. The house my parents had before the one they live in (which Becky and family live in in CS) was entertaining. The living room, kitchen, and dining room were all One Gigantic Room With a Cathedral Cieling. There were no real wall, too. The dining room/living room wall was a bar and fireplace. The kitchen/living room wall was a Breakfast Bar. The second floor was only one half of the house, and had a landing where you could see the entire Dining/Living/Kitchen Rooms at once. Gorgeous house and sorely missed.

Considering that Allison in CS is an interior decorator, most of her house seems to be brown walls everywhere. I really need to update her house to something like these weres. Now that I've seen these houses, I plan to put a lot of what I saw in there in the house. Nice wide doorways and open areas, patterned wallpapers, bookshelves everywhere...a line of betta fish glasses on the walls. :D I've tried to incorporate the house features into the rooms I've created for CS, but I really need to CREATE an actual floorplan.

It was also a really really long walk all around Hyde Park. Good excersize. However, Dean wanted to ride a pedicab (which is basically a bicycle powered rickshaw). Being as heavy as I was, I apologized to the driver. :)

Late night was a drive to San Antonio for Father's Day where I not only to drive IN the storm...I got to drive WITH the storm. I drove rather slowly on purpose, leaving Austin just as the real storms started to hit, and made it to SA in two hours, keeping up with the storm the whole way. Wonderful. :D I hadn't done that in a long time.

SUNDAY
Again a bad night of sleep, made for an early morning awakening. For a family trying to keep the mileage on their contest-won Tahoe down, they like their roadtrips. We took Dad for dinner to a place his friend owned inthe middle of nowhere. Goodfood, but said friend was nowhere to be seen. He also had a gift certificate, which meant the bill for a family of four was $20. :D

From there we took a road trip to Gonzales, then back to Luling, watermelon capital of Texas. My parentspickd up $22 in watermelon, and I've got a big one now all chopped up and sitting in the fridge. I'm not all that impressed with it, but considering it's not spoiled - it's GOOD. :9

We managed to get back to San Antonio, I fell asleep in the passenger seat, and again when I got home. And now I'm back. It's sleepy time. Goodnight. :D

Sam ([livejournal.com profile] the_curmudgn) was one of the docents on that house tour in Hyde Park.

If the picture on his page is recent, I didn't meet up with him at any tour. :(

But it was fun nonetheless. :D
