I...did...but...what...

Did Bush just do something I APPROVE of?!

Basically - it says the Government can't take your property via Eminent Domain unless it's a public works kind of thing. No more taking it simply because a mall might make more money for the city. I've gone over it with a fine toothed comb, and I can't find something I'm unhappy about in this order. There's GOT to be something devious in there. Something evil...but...I....

QUICK! What's the temperature in hell?!

Big update coming soon.

The executive order applies only to the Federal government. All the egregious abuses of eminent domain we've heard about lately have been committed by state governments. So, yeah, it's good, but it's not all that good.

Fortunately some states have already taken action. For example, such abuses had already been made illegal by state law or constitutional amendment (I think the former) in Texas, right after the SCOTUS handed down their ruling on the matter.

My understanding is that the law passed in Texas is snoaded full of holes and may not be of any value beyond scoring political brownie points with constituents. I have not had time to confirm this, however.
