I don't believe in astrology...but you know, I totally believe in Mercury Retrogrades. The entire batch of CDs I just made have a bug in them.

No that's not true. IE has a bug in it. One of my pages played an MP3 as a background to the page. Now if that page is playing music, and you click specifically on one link from that page the computer locks up.

Works fine in Firefox. It's great in Netscape. Locks up every machine running IE in the house. And, no, I won't simply say "Switch to Firefox." 90% of my traffic is IE, so IE needs to be "supported." So I trashed all the discs, made new ones without the offending ONE LINE OF CODE and everything's working now.

Why didn't I see this when I tested the links? The browser I used to make the CDs, somehow based on IE, didn't lock up while I tested the pages from inside the program,

But what a shameful waste. Really. I need to start marking these retrogrades on a calendar somewhere.

Believe it. And like I've said before, (http://tiffleigh.livejournal.com/11717.html) even if you don't believe in it, it believes in you.

The current one ends July 28th and the next one isn't until October into November:

I think this particular stretch of Mercury Retrograde is targetting CD-burning technology. I just made my first "coaster" CDR in years because this computer's SCSI bus decided to go crazy and lock up three minutes into a burn. Pbbbbth.

So nice to see that someone else I know has this problem. (er, or at least to see that I'm not alone. heh)

I design my stuff to be optomized for IE for exactly that reason, even though I'm an Opera girl myself.

I actually don't mind using IE at all, really. I've always used it SAFELY, though. Although this new "play sound and freeze" bug is making me think it might be time to change.

You can 'encourage' Firefox (or Netscape, or Opera, or whatever) by putting a 'Best viewed by' button on the page. I just think that IE is the Devil. I hate pages that only view in IE.

I'm not a big advocate of specific browsers. I'd rather just have a site that works with all the browsers, even though it means slightly crippled versions of pages. Before I started webcomics, my pages were optimized to look good on LYNX browsers!

Missed ya this year, man.

Well, if the CD's you've already made aren't totally trashed, I was considering buying one and I use Firefox pretty much exclusively, so, if you wanted to sell one of those to me, thereby saving yourself some money and not making all that time a *complete* waste, I'd be happy. And, there's also a case of forewarned is forearmed...

I'll keep one aside for you.

Seems they may actually be usable. A lot of pages that use music\sounds are suddenly freaking out when I click a link. 5'll get you 9 that an update screwed something up.

Thanks! I'll skip over to your site now and order myself one. As long as I can remember my PayPal log in...
