Wow, that was...a wierd day.

My first day on the job, I showed up at 9:00AM instead of 8:45 like I was told...or 8AM like I was scheduled. I filled out some forms, was scolded into not installing any programs on my machines, given a quick overview of the machines I'd be working on, a tour of the place, then had lunch.

After lunch...they didn't know what to do with me. Then told me to read some manuals, which I did...I got bored...surfed the web, and let myself out.

The job is very relaxed, very casual, and very permissible. After being told DON'T INSTALL SHIT, I saw everyone else tunneling out of the internet to their home systems. No one cared. There was no stress, no rush, and everyone was incredibly friendly.

If it wasn't for the 2.25 hour commute, it'd be great. That commute will end 8/19 when I get my apartment. :) And 8/18 is my first paycheck.

Everyone seemed happy to see me, many were astounded that I knew my way around not only the hardware, but the proicesses behind what they were doing, and I'm looking forward to working there. :)

Looks like a leg up!

Further job stuff will be under a filter to keep prying eyes from peering in, but I thought you'd all like to know how the first day went. :)

Oh, and my schedule until further notice? 8AM to 4PM. Uhg!

Glad everything worked out well! I'd been wondering about that, actually. Good to hear something going right.

I'm supposed to be doing tech support. Yesterday, I just read manuals. Today, I laid cable and installed VNC Viewer on the labs.

Not sure WHAT I'm doing....

I know how good it is to finally get a job that actually seems to have a bit of promise to it and isn't hideously stressful. Well, apart from the commute and 8am start.

Congratulations!

Welcome to the sort of hours I've been keeping (7 to 4 here, plus one hour commute). And people wonder why I haven't been around?

Sounds like you may have found a keeper.

Cheers,
Gwen Smith
