Did you know the remastered Star Trek episodes came out today?

Yeah, it seems no one did. I knew, but only because AICN made a big deal about it. Otherwise, I've seen one press release and no ads for the updated show.

They took the 1966 Trek, remastered the negative to HDTV standards, redid all the effects shots in CGI and matched them to the original elements, so they're the same shots, just "cleaner" and more realistic. They even reorchestrated the music in 5.1 note for note.

It's very nice. :)

Pictures!

The opening credits, and a good example of what quality I'm getting on captures these days. 640x480, 9MB, XVid Video, MP3 Audio.

It's showing on KVNA in the Austin area Saturdays at 4PM and again at 11PM. Thirty minutes from now!

My only complaint? The stars are all white now. They lost their 1966s technicolor brightness! Ah, well, it's worth that loss...

...oh and KVNA has a nasty buzz on the right side channel that HARD to get rid of.

Maybe if the Air and Space Museum hadn't tarted her up in an attempt to make her look like something out of A New Hope she would have won the audition.

Honestly, that paint job in the name of "Restoring" her was a travesty.

He's a sorcerer that one!

I was always a fan of "City on the Edge of Forever," myself. The story so good, they couldn't erase Harlan Ellison from it, no matter how hard they tried! :)

...it's not the wholesale abortion that I heard from one person's perspective? If so, that's a relief, as it will probably be the version shown from now on.

* Sigh * I know that Enterprise wasn't well received, but it's a pity that they couldn't have done the last 3 seasons (which I'm sure, would have ended with the formation of the Federation) first.

Have no idea what the new film will be like, but I suspect that Paramount doesn't either.

I'm really impressed with the restraint they've shown on ths and TMP. In a world where you can now show spaceships doing billions of loops and curves, they're really only cleaning up what was done in 1966.

Lucas could learn a thing or two from that.

"Wholesale abortion"? That's actually the first NEGATIVE thing I've heard anyone say about it.

And don't worry, this is most assuredly not a Lucas-type deal. Not only are the originals still available on DVD, stations like TV Land are still currently airing the originals. Paramount has no intention of letting the originals go away.

Just my $.02...
