When last we left our heroine, the AC had finally been fixed after a freeze-up. What, pray tell, troubles would befall her new apartment yet?!
Well, another freezup. Multiple freezups, in fact. And multiple visit from the maintenance people to fix everything but the AC despite multiple "HEY, MY SYSTEM IS BROKEN!"
So, I took matters into my own hand. It was sweltering in the house, yes, but I turned the AC on and let it freeze up...and continued to let it freeze up....and continued for three or four days. I got a knock on the door one day, when the maintenance guy shows up saying "Hey, your AC line is totally frozen outside!"
Well, duh. It's a solid block of ice on the inside.
SO he refills the freon, the apartment takes most of the day to cool down, and everything finally works...
Until that evening, when suddenly, it's 80 in the house. I make a call to the landlords who aren't in and leave a message saying the AC is not working. I call the next day during business hours. And the day after that. And the day after that.
When that cold front came though, the house was pure heaven. The windows were open, it was 68 in the house, and the air had that "morning crispness" to it, instead of "recycled freon" smell. It was a nice way to wake up that morning.
Eventually, ONE WEEK LATER, someone comes out and sees that whoever had this apartment last let the AC filter get dirty - THEN FLIPPED IT AROUND TO USE THE OTHERSIDE. The coils had been slowly building up with gunk from the bad side of the filter for almost a month (It wasn't me, I swear, I haven't touched that filter till a few days ago when I put a new one in.)
So now there's a new filter in there, the house is back to a cool 75, and I can sleep without soaking the bed in sweat. Very nice.
