Oh, I forgot. I also got a keyboard. It weighs about five pounds. And it goes CLICK every key you press. :D

I'm hell on keyboards. My very first computer was an IBM PCjr, and it had this chicklet type keyboard. Each key was this rounded lego block button that you had to hit straight on in order to to get it to register. Since I couldn't press perfectly straight on the keys, I learned to hit the keys hard.

My second computer had a really good keyboard like the one I just got. Because it was so good, I still spiked keys and pushed hard on keys since it worked just fine. After almost five years of pounding on it (And almost 12 years of hitting keys like jackhammers), one of my cousins spilled Big Red all over it and shorted it out. I got my first cheapie keyboard that afternoon.

They were still selling these good keyboards, but I needed something cheap and fast and I got it. From that point on, keyboards would last at the most, a year before they started breaking. Either the space bar, or the right shift key (There's a picture around here somewhere of my right shift key FRACTURING from the way I type.

I've bought so many keyboards over the years, it's pathetic...and seeing that I just broke one days before Christmas, I finally splurged and bought a $80 keyboard that goes CLICK CLICK CLICK when I type. :D

Ah, the memories.

I really should learn to not spike keys when I type.

My woes probably pale by comparison. My main problem with desktop keyboards is finding ones that won't wreck my joints and carpel tunnels (keyboards that lack stupid, worse than useless features that are now ubiquitous get bonus points, which is another reason I mainly search for and get used relics). My holy grail desktop keyboard is NECs from the 1980s, which I've not seen for years (and wore out my last working one years ago).

With notebook keyboards my problem is that nobody designs them to take as much typing as I do. the letters are always practically stickers that wear off in a matter of months leaving me with more and more black keycaps that can make it hard to get my hands in the correct positions (I'm not yet a touch typist).

This machine's keyboard gets bonus points for designing two keycaps to not be interchangeable with the others so that I can't rearrange them to go with the keyboard layout I use (2H Dvorak). Admittedly, I and D themselves are the main problem keys at this point (they read 'G' and the top half of 'H' when I wear off the most recently applied layer of black Sharpie).

SL, whose carpel tunnel problems got abruptly a lot less bad in 1997 or so when he changed keyboard layouts
