When I went to the doctor last time, they gave me a shitload[tm] of tests to be run. I wasn't too thrilled about it, but was resigned to do it - I had insurance coverage.

Just as I was about to leave, the doctor stopped me and said, "hey, wait...you've had a gap in insurance coverage....wait a week or two for a letter from your insurance company asking for more information...if you get it DON'T TAKE THE TESTS, you'll end up paying $1000 for the whole thing."

So a week passed, and I didn't take the tests, I was too busy. Same a week after that. Last wekk I was about to take the tests but couldn't because they only did it early in the morning.

Today, almost a month later, I get a letter from the insurance company denying most of my coverage as a pre-existing condition. If I had taken the tests, I would have paid half a paycheck out in cash for a stupid test I didn't want to take and already knew the answer to anyways.

I've decided to use the insurance as emergency care only. Doctors constantly want to poke and prod me to prevent stuff I know I'll already get no matter what, and now that a lot of it wont' be covered, why bother. All I hope for now is that I can keep the hormones coming in.

::nods::

Doctors and pharmaceuticals spent so much time screwing insurance, that when they finally got fed up with it, the people were the ones who paid (and continue to pay).

You bet it sucks. If this place was more decently run, and not driven by profit, which it has been since the early eighties, then maybe, just maybe, all of us would have the medical help we need at a cost that everyone can afford.

To the people who say that socialized medicine is no good, that is only half of the myth about medicine.

Insurance companies, Lawyers, doctors and drug companies are all trying to screw each other trying to and succeeding in screwing us.

I can hardly wait for socialized medicine.

Think it'll ever happen here? Personally, I doubt it, but not for the reasons most people say. It's the name. Seriously. You say "socialized" anything, and it immediately jumps to Commie. No more reason than that. :P
