They were seriously delayed in Customs, but Emily just hopped the last ferry to Victoria. An hour and a half from home....

...there must have been something going on, when Emily left for the airport, they pulled her aside and hand-searched her....

Ugh, we've been on that ferry way too many times lately... April might have a job in Vancouver so we've been going back and forth a tonne trying to sort that out...

They randomly hand-search people now, they did it to April, they print SSSS on your ticket and bingo, you get the extra treatment... guess it's yet another 'enhanced security precaution' == annoyance.

And public transit into Victoria takes like an hour *groan*, it takes the severely scenic route =/ So hopefully she didn't have to take that, but if she did, we can empathize... The transit company here has an 'arrangement' with a private company that provides direct service for three times the transit fare...

Just waiting on the particular company involved to complete reference and security checks. Those checks are taking extra time because I'm from Australia but hopefully there should be an offer on the table next week some time...

*crosses her fingers*

That's be so neat if it works out! Victoria's wonderful and all but it's over there and I'm over here : )

Yup, I got the full security treament in LAX on entering the domestic terminal. Frisked by a security person and my bags turned inside out. It seemed to be chosen randomly by computer as my [livejournal.com profile] gidget_ca says.

The inital security person told me I'd been selected for a search, as soon as he saw my Canadian driver's license instead of a passport. The same thing happened last year in Toronto. I sort of expect it now. I've got nothing to hide.

Yea, security has gotten pretty strict. On leaving Australia, everyone was getting checked carefully... The whole bag checks and "shoes off" routine.

As you say though, if one has nothing to hide then there isn't an issue.

I've always found that a dangerou thing to say. Given the current situation here, if enough people say that, we'll be locked down so hard we'd become a police state. Also, there've been too many stories of screeners taking offense at something, and claiming your a threat to simply annoy alternative innocents.

It's prolly not going to happen, but that's a path I don't even want to look down, much less walk anywhere near.
