dolariNExt paycheck I'm buying my flight tickets to Trinoc-con 2007. And I'm kind of unnerved this year. Not for any real professional reasons like in 2005, but for personal ones.
While most everyone from last year was invted again this year, because of various reasons, I'll prolly be the only one coming this year. In 2004, I was invited alongside Erin Lindsey and Kittyhawk. While I've only spoken to Kittyhawk a few times since, the convention really took Erin's and me's (god what IS the correct grammatical thingy for that kind of setup?) mutual admiration relationship and exploded into one of personal friendship. We talk all the time. In 2005, I'd already been chatting almost daily with Liz Troub, Jess Silverstone and Cat. It was also the first time I met Emily in person, after several month of nightly talking. In 2006, Liz, Cat, Emily and Erin returned and brought Loren along. I really had a blast.
But this year, no one is coming. Erin's broken leg has her house bound for the foreseeable future. Jess, I believe, was not invited as was Loren (although Loren would have been a guest of Liz). Liz would have come but she's kind of distancing herself from her comic as it is. Cat is moving to Houston, so can't make it. Emily and I made the decision that Getting Her to Texas or Getting Me to Seattle is more important than flying her to Trinoc.
I won't be the only webcomic artist there at all. But all the ones I speak to on a daily basis won't be. I'm looking forward to seeing Mike, Jamie and McKenzee again as well as everyone else...but still I can't help but feel I'm going alone this time. I still plan to go. I'll keep going as often as they invite me. I'll go out of my way to go. I'm just already missing the folks who aren't coming.
