In a day that couldn't get much worse, I came home to find my computer off. My computer never ever is turned off, except at night. When I tried to power it n, nothing. After removing everything on the system, it still won't power on. Computers dead. This means all I have is a buggy iMac that freezes every few minutes and my cell phone. I have no money to buy a new one, or even components for one any time soon. Comics are on hiatus until I get a new PC, which could be a few months at this rate.

I've had a really really really bad day. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to bash my head against the wall.

10 to 1 this freezes when I post it.

Ah hells. If it's an iMac I don't know, if it was a PC I'd give you the same advice I got recently when I thought my compy was dead, which is a cure for a CMOS loop (never ran into it before since I haven't frankensteined my machines properly for the last decade or so and batteries have made quite a leap, even enough to retain a charge while it's off and unplugged and you're pulling and reseating hardware).

But what worked for mine, even after multiple reboots and pulling reseating just about everything, was to unplug the case and hold in the power button for 20 seconds to fully discharge the resident CMOS charge (which was holding in the case/power supply even while I was working on everything else), then replug and reboot. I'm sure you've probably already tried it, but it's what I was dealing with recently with the "coming home, compy is suddenly off and won't even post beep, WTF?" scenario.

I have a working tower system or a laptop you can borrow - your choice. I can also bring it to you.

The tower is a frankenbox and the laptop is an Inspiron 6000.

I think I finally got everything set up. I had enough money budgeted for groceries to cover a really yucky board. Not what I want in an upgrade, but it's a cheap computer.

Thankfully, Emily and I deduced the iMac just needs a fresh reload of Mac OS 8.6...the problem is getting the disk from a certain person who packed it then never saw it again.

The PC issue, though, yeah I've done that. When I worked at Dell we called it "clearing the NVRam." Nah, the system is dead. I do have enough for an "upgrade" but I'll be very unhappy with it. It'll work...but it's cheap. :P

It must have been the day for it: my laptop turned off for no good reason as well.

Cheers,
