My Hanna avatar in Second life has her own self-illumination. We really didn't realize how bright it was till someone mentioned they could see me eaily at 40 meters distance. I decided I was gonna see how bright I really was.

I REALLY wanted to do this as a rollover image, but I can't find a rollover script that doesn't involved rewriting the custom headers on my LJ page. Just page up and down really fast.

Those buildings are 70 meters away, and STILL catch my glare.

Proof that you light up my life.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, this makes me wish I could glow. There's a D&D spell for that...

What about...

...a CSS style roll-over (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/javascript/2001/03/23/rollovers.html) that shifts a single image with the mouse-over?

Golly - she sure is bright! Image

I was trying to do a self illuminating halo within my first 24 hours and couldn't figure it out.

(I also couldn't figure out how to rotate the object 90 degrees, either, so instead of it looking like a halo, it was stuck in my head like the avatar of all body-mod metal mohawks.)

Actually, it's pretty easy. Just create a cylinder, and in the options set the hollow to your liking. Then squich it to be generally halo-ish. Go to the texture panel and choose fullbright to make it always bright, then have it emit light using the light function. Wear it somewhere on your head, move it around, rotate it as necessary till it's squarely on your head. :)
