Ah c'mon, give John Sim a chance, he's an amazing actor. Plus the Doctor is yummy looking, it seems only fair the Master should be yummy as well
Much better then Eric Roberts *shudders*
Also when you come visit, if you guys have time, I'd love to have you guys over for dinner. I make a mean batch of crepes and by then I'll actually have a kitchen table and chairs :D Plus an actual couch

I have no problem with his image, and how he looks. Not at all. My problem was the campy Stewie-from-Family-Guy preening. For me the Master is a calm controlled socicopath. Eric Roberts was barely tolerable till he got that damned outfit on. If John Simms had been directed a bit less campy, I would have liked him a LOT more.
As for dinner, remind me a bit closer, when we start planning WHAT we're doing in Canada. :)
As for me, I'll say: Fair cop. IE, while I'm ok with his portrayal (partly because the contrast between the manic, smart-@rse moments and his serious ones are so delicious), this is a very different Master than we've seen before - if it rubs you the wrong way thus far, then it rubs you the wrong way...
::nods:: It's not a deal breaker. I totally DESPISE Colin Baker's portrayal of the Doctor. He's the only Doctor that I only have a few episodes of, and am not actively seeking out. But I stuck around for Sylvester. :) I'll watch the next episode, and the season after. but it was a serious bump in the road for me.
Dr Who starts here next Thursday (though Torchwood started - on a different channel - last week). Not sure how they plan to resurrect the Master considering how he's been disposed of in the past.
I wouldn't mind seeing either Romana or The Rani coming back, but they'd have to have decent scripts.
Frankly if Simm = Delgado or if Simm = Ainley I'd not have liked his performance as much as I did. There were some elements of the story I didn't like but Simm as The Master wasn't one of them.
See - I had the exact opposite problem. I thought the plot itself was possible for the Master. The problem was the campy preening I didn't like. It was like seeing Stewie from Family Guy all grown up.
For me, the Master is a calm cool and collected sociopath, not Stewie.
I will admit it - Season 24 is terrible terrible terrible. Mel was such an annoying companion, Syl is much better at dark and brooding than light and comical, and with the exceptions of maybe Time and the Rani and Paradise Towers, the season is horrid. Even those two episodes are pretty bad.
Season 25 was much better as long as you skip over The Happiness Patrol, and go into Greatest Show in the Galaxy with a grain of salt.
Season 26 jut hit all the pistons RIGHT - and then they were cancelled....
For me "The Happiness Patrol" is a classic example of great idea, sloppy execution. It read much better in the Target novelization than it played on the screen.
As for Simm's Master, I agree -- too camp. Still, it was much better in the actual episode than in the previews, where they made it look like we'd be getting nothing but camp.
And didn't the reporter early in the episode seem like another actress trying to play Sarah Jane Smith?
