Just a note about that last post.
I have no problem with how John Simms LOOKS as the Master. Or Simms himself. My problem is his Master takes much less of a line of Roger Delgado-Peter Pratt-Geofrey Beevers-Anthony Ainley line of Masters, and WAY WAY WAY too much from Stewie from Family Guy.
Had the whole episode been done with a much more controlled and sociopathic Master, instead of a campy preening Master, I would have liked him a lot more.
It's also not a deal breaker.
I'm a geek, yeah, but I'm not Comic Book Guy. :D

Date: 2007-06-24 07:51 pm (UTC)i agree with you. it was fun ep, imo, but the whole thing was a bit...over the top. espchely john simms master. saddly, i think the way it ended up was RTD's fault, who is the headline writer, but isntachuly that great, so that he gets all the big eps (first and ending arc eps), witch he, genrely, dosent do well. at all.
i would prefer these eps were handled by other writers, like the guy who wrote blink and the empty child combo.
but off gone off in to a bad fanish rantting, so ill be quite now.

Date: 2007-06-24 08:00 pm (UTC)Actually, I LIKE the fact that Simms's Master is completely different from the Delgado/Ainley/Roberts Masters. The Doctor's personalities change wildly between regenerations. Why shouldn't the Master's?
I think I agree with this one comment I saw on Wikipedia: the Master was always meant to be an evil equal to the Doctor, and in this case the parallels are more blatant because the current Master's personality is about as manic as the current Doctor's.
