All bills but one - PAID (the other to be paid AFTER vacation)
Replacement Clothing - ORDERED
Airfare - PAID

Things I need to do: Get birth certificate from parents.

If I can keep from spending money from here on out, and that's totally possible with all my groceries paid for and plenty of gas in my truck, I should have $1300 on my way up to Seattle/Vancouver/Victoria. $840 is already spent in hotels and car rental, which leaves me with $460 to spend while I'm there. It'll be tight, but with $200 leeway on a credit card, and Emily helping out if things get very tight, we should be good.

I think I'm ready. :)

Update: Figuring I'd need my name change papers to get into Canada (my birth certificate has my old name on it, and Texas won't change it), I found that I not only have more than one copy of my name change court order, but THREE. I was getting worried. If worse came to worse, all I have to do is call Pennsylvania for more if I run out, but better to not bring the ONLY copy with me.

I officially became Jennifer Christine [Lastname] on May 20th, 1999 at 10:59AM. :)

She had to come up when the Canadian dollar was at a 30-year high. She'll only be getting an extra 38 cents on every 10 dollars she spends. Why couldn't it be 2002 with a 63-cent Canadian dollar? :P

I'm Texan and proud - but they're right. When it comes to LGBT issues, Texas is very very very evil. One of the reasons I'm leaving isn't just for Emily, but because Texas laws make it very hard for me to keep a job here. I need to go somewhere where I'm protected from legal discrimination.

born texan but raised in louisiana.
Louisiana is much better about transgender issues than texas. If I was born in LA I could have my birth certificate changed with namechange and reissued on srs.
I'm worried about name change (thought I think I can do it here in LA which means that I might be able to get that nasty m changed to a f on it. and when the day comes for srs I really really really don't want to deal with texas legalities on those issues.

I'm seriously concidering hiring a adoption lawyer to advise me on how I can get my birth certificate changed to LA since normally LA reissues birth certificates on adoptions, but I think texas is to blame once again for that not happening.

Texas won't change birth certificates. The reasoning I usually get is "You can't be born any other way than you were born." It's hard enough just to get a name change in Texas (I was lucky enough to be in PA which has EASY name change laws).

Driver's license and birth certificate if you're not arriving by airplane, until at least Dec 2007, possibly June 2008. That's the official word.

If you had a passport that would have worked, If you have a drivers license that works, though the border agents probably don't see TX drivers licenses very often, make sure you have emilys phone number in case they give you a hard time. The average person spends about 3 minutes at the border, usually they look in the vehicle to see how many people are in it. Just don't make any jokes about coming to canada to buy drugs, veeeeery bad idea.

She'll be in the car with me - but noted for future non-Emily-in-car reference. :)

They let me in with nary a look at that ID. Just asked me where I was from, how long I was staying, and how much Emily brought back with her from the US. Then on through we went.
