Those are very well-composed, indeed. I surely do wish you'd come across on the Horseshoe Bay boat, since I suspect you'd have done a bang-up job on a panorama of Departure Bay, or of the hills round behind Nanaimo.

Consider yourself welcomed to explore the unknown world north of the Malahat.

I take it that you did these in software. Photoshop?

Lots and lots and lots of layer tweaking with Paint Shop Pro, same graphics program I've been using since the days of Windows 3.11 (Because of perspective problems, the original pic for the left side of the Empress is SUPER deformed to get all the perspective to match). It also helps that my camera has a panoramic guide setting, so you can do some minor matching when when just taking the picture.

Wow, I am impressed! About so far as my talents go, is two- and three-dimensional cartography (which, in a way, is at the core of what I do for a living), most which happens in Surfer 7.0, with some pre-work in Photoshop 6.0a. You did a particularly good job on the Emp, which is probably the next most-photographed building in the ville next to the Birdcages (the Legislature), where once upon a time I used to work.

What sort of camera is it that you are using?

Long time ago, I had a panoramic film camera (which for the life of me I cannot recall its make or model); nowadays I shoot with an elderly Sony Mavica MVC-FD200, which will shoot either to a stick or a 1.44 floppy (remember those?). I do field photos with it, to acceptable success.

My kid sister has some sort big fancy gizmo camera that looks and sounds like a fancy old motor-drive Canon SLR; it's big and heavy enough that she can take good shots in low light; then again, she shoots professionally, which is more than I have ever done. Talent is seldom uniformly distributed within a family; I suppose that I am living proof of that, being able to write but not draw. Draughting, of course, is really both and neither of those, especially with CAD/CAE systems.

Oh, and welcome to the fray. Throwing of chairs is discouraged: the bartender bruises easily.

Thanks! That one was tough to do, you should have seen the deformation pic I gave to Emily and how badly that second picture was stretched and pulled. :D

Next time I'm in Victoria, we plan to do exactly that.

That's a field of flowers, part of G.A. Vantreight Farms which covers a good portion of Central Saanich, twelve miles north of Victoria. They're a major exporter of daffodils, of all things.

I figured it was Saanich, but usually when I am down that way I am flying low to the ground trying to make the one o'clock boat, so never stop to dawdle through there. Agricultural Land Reserve, gotta love it (I am not a developer, so don't give a rat's whether or not this crimps the "supply" of land for urban sprawl).

We used to get their daffodils in Thriftys up here, until some bright soul at Ministry of Transportation decided to authorize widespread roadside planting of daffodils through Black Creek -- even though the deer eat most of them, there are still plenty 'nough to go around.
