Plowing into a deer at 45MPH is not an experience I would like to repeat. I'm fine, the truck's fine, the deer...not so much.

Makes trying the durian fruit more palatable, that's for sure.

Yeah, that's the sort of thing that can ruin your whole day. I'm relieved to hear that you and the truck are fine.

The last time my mother hit a deer, a guy pulled over to ask her if he could take the carcass. Free venison, I suppose.

I didn't realize but in texas, if you hit a deer, it's considered a hunting kill. If you can get a permit fast enough, you can take it home. One of the guys here at work is nuts for venison...shoulda let him know.

I'm grateful that it seems like both you and your truck survived that close encounter. Please know that I'm available to help if you need help. (Yea - I know you live far away but if I can drive to Fort Worth to schmooze with people I only knew on the web, I can drive to your town to lend a hand.)

Deer Season

Glad you are ok....

From about age 16 to 19, I used to "get" a deer almost every year in the neighborhood I grew up in. I've bumped them at 20mph in the neighborood, taggged one at about 60mph in a Triumph TR7, and evnen plowed through one at 90mph in a 1987 Mazda B-2000 minitruck. I looked at my friend, said hang on, slammed the brakes, and braced for impact.

What a mess.

After I had moved out, my dad avoided taking one out....by trying to dodge it, and ended up rolling his Ford Ranger. It was smashed down to the door on the passenger side only (very lucky). How any of us (excluding the deer), avoided serious injury, I'll never figure out.

The deer whistles that you mount on your bumper do work. I didn't seen near as many of them after installing them. It also helped that the the owner of the property of where they seemed to cross all the time finally put up an 8' deer fence. I haven't seen them in that area since.

Oh deer. I used to have a Renault Alliance until one dark night on the North side of Burnaby Mountain (the one with the university on top). At the end of it all, the score was tied at 0 : (

Glad you're all right.

Been there, done that. Result wasn't as good as yours.

Years ago a friend of my father was retiring from the coast guard so we went up for the ceremony. Didn't quite make it, thanks to Suicidal Bambi (that's a pretty good name for a band, actually). The van was reparable, but we were stuck in rural southern Jersey for several days.

Anyway, glad you're alright.

Roos have much the same effect over here in Australia too. Is this (http://www.globe-guardian.com/archives/twisted/tl0004.htm) any help?
