Just a little add on to the San Francisco post.  One of the other reasons I seriously considered staying there was that for being downtown, the city was very very livable.  Most city centers are simply tall office buildings (San Antonio/Austin) or overpriced condos (I'm looking at you, Seattle).  San FRancisco, though, looks LIVABLE.  Cramped, but people live in the downtown area in squished houses, and seem to enjoy it.

I could still live there.

Also I regret not going to Emperor Norton's grave and saluting him.

However, in Seattle (well, Renton's) favor, I just found a Sushiland at the mall near here.  Guess what lunch will be Tuesday? :D

I grew up near San Francisco, lived in the City, itself, for a few years. It is very livable, more so than just about any city I have lived in.

Back when I determined I was moving to Seattle, San Francisco was also on my list. In the end, it seemed more plausible that I'd find a way to survive here than in a city where the going rate for a single room in an apartment is upwards of $800...

EDIT: Which is not to say it wouldn't be worth it...San Francisco is an amazing city, and one I'd be happy to live in, all other things being equal.
