I am having a bad day.

All our calls today have been angry upset and irrational callers. I can handle angry and upset, but not irrational. Secondly, nearly all of our tools for looking up information are down or telling us that information we're putting in is invalid. Thirdly, all our mentors who are supposed to help us (and at least 1 is here 24/7) are gone.

I'm SO close to giving up today, and just going home.

Some pointers for our customers. When we send you a system exchange for a safety issue YEARS out of wrranty, don't tell us you want another because the paint is chipped. Please call us from an area where a band is not rehearsing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call us in front of your computers.

SOOOO damned close.

For an example, click here: http://www.livejournal.com/community/customers_suck/3129030.html

Despite the way things look in my journal, my mood hasn't been all that bad these last few days. But today, people took the pissy pill, and it's quickly becoming contagious.

I read this on Erinlefey's journal and realized I never really talked about my name since I came out.... Might as well air it out.

1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?

My first and middle names have changed. My last name is still my family's name, though.

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?

I already have. :) I did consider renaming my last name to Dolari, though. I decided not to, in the vain hope my family would still talk to me.

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)

I am responsible for my name. I chose it, specifically for several reasons. My birth name was my father's doing. I'm named after him. There's actually a long standing tradition in our family that males have female middle names. Most are the names of saint, but mine was not. Not sure why.

Back in 1986 or so, I had settled down on a female name for myself. Marlene. It was pretty close to my male name, and I thought it was a very very pretty name. But after some poking and prodding of my "issue" with my family, and the 2 months of very hurt feelings afterwards, I buried the whole Marlene thing DEEP DEEP down.

Fast forward to about 1989 or so. I'm writing a chapter of the Polychronicon in my head, one where a character is put into a female body to live out his life until they can find a way to clone males. He's REALLY unhappy about it. REALLY REALLY unhappy. But, in order to wait his life out, he gives himself a female name (Jennifer), tries to live the life, but absolutely despises it. And every reason turned out to be one I had with my own life, and before I new it, I realized I was writing a "mirror image" of my own issues. I decided I wasn't going to become so hurt like my character, and deicedd to go through with my plans. I took on that characters female name as my own.

My middle name came from Christine McGlade. Ten brownie points if you remember her.

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?

I love the sound of Amy or Kyoko. Oriental names sound so cool. The male names are MALE and the female names are FEMALE.

5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com / triggur.org / astroexpert accurate? How or how isn't it?

The name Jennifer creates a dual nature in that you can be very generous and understanding, but you can also be so candid in your expression that you create misunderstanding. You struggle with the requirement to soften your expression with tact and diplomacy and to consider the feelings of others. Difficulty in accepting advice or admitting that you may have made a mistake causes you to appear to be stubborn and set in your ways. Thus, you have too often created the wrong impression, and friendships have suffered. This name does offer creative talent where there is the opportunity for ingenuity and originality. You have a tendency, at times, to have too many ideas on the go, and thus your efforts are scattered and many things do not reach completion. You are inclined to do to excess the things you like to do. You have very intense feelings and find it difficult to maintain stability and happiness. If you allowed it, temper and self-pity could be problems.
