When Windows 10 came out, I fell in love with it. But it's REALLY starting to again take a lot of control away from me, again. Right now I have a wired local network in my room since it's small and faster than our WiFi when it gets congested, and for the life of me, I can't get Windows 10 to use it consistently.

I've got Windows HOSTS file to set "DIN-ETHERNET" to, say, 192. 168. 2. 123 . But my main is also available at "DIN" at our often congested WiFi network at 192. 168. 86. 234. Windows 10 will connect to the 2. 123 connection, then after about ten seconds of streaming, switch it over to 86.234.

Normally this isn't bad, but if I'm pulling an HD movie across the network and so are the roomies, things get buffery.

It used to work a few months ago, but then suddenly stopped. Probably with an update. All the solutions I've seen simply don't seem to work (altering HOST files, adding routes), and I need the WiFi on to get internet, since the wired network is not on the net.

At this point, I may just move my laptop back to ArchLinux if it keeps being a pain. I just need to local 192.168.2 traffic to go through the Ethernet to keep local stuff local....

I've made the joke that in Texas I'm a left wing liberal, in Washington State, I'm a left leaning conservative and internationally I'm a fascist. Thing is, that's somewhat true.

One of the reasons I feel that all politics are local is that in Texas I'm considered a far left wing Austin liberal, but compared to most of my friends outside Texas (and especially internationally) I come across as a left-leaning conservative, or at least a very cautious liberal.

I do want a move to the left everywhere, but I'm very much into a "slow and steady wins the race" kind of transformation. Mainly because I feel rebounds will be just as harsh should a fast move in any direction.

I catch hell for it, but I do want the same things leftists want, just at a much slower pace than most want. And that probably has a lot to do growing politically away in a place where things were amazingly skewed in one direction.

I've only really realized that once I became aware of world news, about twenty years ago. And only recently realized that even I'm considered slow-moving in the last five years.

Not sure if I'm right, or your right, or who's right. But the goal is the same if not the pace.

We can add "Outland" to the list of movies so boringly bad that I can't even riff them. Oddly, Sean Connery is also in the other movie on that list, "Zardoz."

"No moral, no message, no prophetic tract, just a simple statement of fact: for civilization to survive, the human race has to remain civilized. Tonight's very small exercise in logic from the Twilight Zone."
