Not much to today - I spent most of it balancing my checkbook, sketching bits of AWFW, finding a name for our future Mage's spirit guide (Enais) and getting the fajita tacos I'd attempted yesterday today from Taco Cabana.

I finally made it Episode 18 of Mospeada...I knew SOMETHING was up with this episode when I saw it as Robotech episode #78. See, the episode recaps at the beginning and end of Robotech were very very long. And there's a "music video" at the end which (I recently found out) was the Japanese endling credits.

I can only imagine what the editor's room looked like when they worked on this episode:

Editor 1:Okay, ACT II looks okay. We'll need to explain why the screen says "Happy Birthday Dear Mint" instead of "Annie" but we can put that in a throwaway line in episode #77. Alright...let's see...ACT III....

Editor 2:Um...Mint just flashed everyone. And not accidentally. And she's drunk. And she's showing EVERYONE.

Editor 1:Well, we'll just cut that out. Just like we do every time she does it.

Editor 2:Wait, the girls are going to shower! HEY! They're all naked!

Editor 1:Well, we'll just cut out the more gratuitous bits

Editor 2:THEY'RE ALL GRATUITOUS BITS!

Editor 1: ::watches:: Oh, dear. What's she doing with...oh, dear. They're...MY EYES! MY EYES!

Editor 2:DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY AT IT!

Editor 3 (outside):SEAL OFF THE EDITING ROOM! BURN THE NEGATIVES! THIS MUST NEVER EXIST IN ROBOTECH! KILL THE EDITORS!

Editor 4 (outside): You know, we need to have Episode #78 ready for transmitting by next week.

Editor 3:Burn the reel. Fill it with anything. ANYTHING.

Actually, it wasn't that bad. Basically, it's the typical anime gratuitous shower shot, but with Annie/Mint along for the ride. And drunk. No wonder the episode was so hacked.

While Annie was kinda crude, the actual scene was about Marlene/Aisha begining to doubt she's human, and Rook/Hoquet uses the situation to say "Look, we have the same bodies, you're just as human as anyone."

In Robotech, it's spelled out that Marlene is an Invid Spy "gone wrong" from the very beginning. In Mospeada they leave whether she's a spy or not untouched, but, unlike Robotech, the humans suspect she's NOT human, but that she really is something innocent, and they're trying to save her the horrors of finding out she's not human. I kinda like that.

Episode 18 of 25 - don't worry, I'll be done with these soon enough, and I'll have meaningful topics and stuff and junk.
