I type WAY too fast for the Dreamcast to handle,
so typo notices will be deleted on site. Stupid
rassin' frassin' Dreamcast grumble
grumble....

Anyone know iuf there's a way I can remap the
CTRL key in Linux to another character? This
Dreamcast keybaord doesn't have a "true" CTRL key
and Linux without a Control key is pretty
useless.

I found a lot of sites that tell you how to remap
the keyboard where the HARDWARE is (Windows
registry hacks, Xmodmap files) but I'm looking ro
something for Telnet. The Dreamcast keybaord
actually has a CTRL key, but it seems just to be
for show, as it does NOTHING. Same with the ALT,
Num Lock and "S1/S2" keys. I thin this is just
an ASCII keyboard. Dean has an adapter to plug
in a PS2 Keboard - mabe that'll work.

Granted, the Dreamcast was never MEANT for the
hoops I'm putting it through, but I can't afford
a laptop.

Anyways - dean's family is here, and as usual,
Dean is in Impress the Parents mode. This
usually involvs wild gestiucalation, excited
utterances and general over explanation of
everything.

He's never been happier. :)

Meanwhile, I'm taking a day off after the Massive
Cleaning Project. I haven't been sleeping well
lately (My body wants to go to bed about 9AM
instead of 7:30 and wake up at 6PM instead of
3:30), and I really am exhausted. I'm hoping to
get SOME sleep today.

I real should pencil AWFW before I go to bed,
since it's all done in silhouette. Shouldn't be
hard to do. I also need togo back and edit the
last episode opf AWFW ASAP. In all the wrangling
to get the last speech sounding nice I left one
MAJOR MAJOR part out. It doesn't have much to
bear over all, but I just recently realized how
it's awkward that andrea is worried about her
house and her friends, and makes no mention about
her mom. Will edit that ASAP.

Is AWFW too too depressing? I mean, i neve found
the first act all that depressing, and 24 Hours
was literally supposed to be the worst 24 hours
of Andreas life, but in general, is it just a
realy sad series? It will lighten up son,
though, and we WILL be seing a hapy andrea in the
next storyline....

My kingdom for a ^X and ^Q,,,,

You're right. I tried a PS/2 and XT keyboard and
both wouldn't send CTRL characters. Oh, well, it
was worth a shot.

There IS an effort to port Linux to the
Dreamcast, but I doubt I want to put that much
effort into it.

I really need a laptop. :D

Heck, there's a Linux available for the Philips Velo. Given that one of mine is refusing to cooperate with updating the version of Win CE I may actually try installing it on that one.

And depending on what you need to do on a portable system, you may be able to get by womething a lot smaller (and cheaper) than a laptop.

I'd be happy with a Web TV type thing, which is what I use the Dreamcast for. I've always waned a Dell L-Series laptop (the time ones), but I don't need a Pentium 3/4 for browsing the web.

You can actually browse with an old 486 system. I've run Arachne on the 486 that does some "background" tasks on my network. It's slow, but it works.

I've got to dig an old Mac SE with an ethernet card out of storage so I can see how bad (or not bad) it is at browsing.

Oh, I know I can use a 486. I had a 386 running Win 3.11 that was an Internet Portal for browsing when someone was using the Pentium (I actually have 16-bit versions of lots of internet applications from back then :) ). I figure, if I 'm going to invest in a laptop, it should do SOMETHING (which is why a P2, 233Mhz is my low end limit for a laptop).

Ah. Slight misunderstanding. A 486 running *DOS*. No windows.

Actually, you could probably run Arachne on an XT. But that requires a bigger masochist than I am.
