I finally saw ROTK today. It was marred by one major fault: My eyes have been burning ALL day. The reason I saw it today, instead of waiting? One of my sponser earmarked their cash for the movie. :D

Thanks, Lucy!

What did I think of ROTK. Well...hmm...I was a little let down. I have to admit, I was a little let down. I realize that the previous movie set up this MASSIVE battle between Man and Mordor...but I didn't expect it to be the Whole Movie.

I'm not a big fan of Big Battles. I find stuff like YuGiOh! and Dragonball simple excuses for 25 minute fights. Now, ROTK has a battle that really just goes from Frame 1 to 3/4 of the way through the three and a half hour movie. And after about an hour, my head just got thrown out of the movie: Where's Sam and Frodo? What happened to their story? Granted, the battle looked very nice, but I do remember that when the Wittermark Riders showed up I thought "ANOTHER wave of fighters?" then the Oliphaunts show up...and then the Ghost Army showed up and I thought "WAVE FOUR?!" and then the battle is over...

...and we make an attack on the black gates of Mordor. Wave Five! There was just too much battle...

...which isn't to say there was not enough story. Sam and Frodo's stories have some of the most heartwrenching scenes climbing Mount Doom and the final fate of the ring. Seeing Denethor's unbalancing act was a gem (and when you gotta go, that's the best way to do it)...and I don't believe this movie had Too Many Endings. It worked PERFECTLY for me, and didn't seem long at all.

Other than the battles, one other thing SERIOUSLY bothered me...and that was the climb up the stairs by Minas Morgul. Oh, man. As someone who has a fear of falling DON'T show me someone sleeping on a ledge like that. Or ZOOM DOWN THE MOUNTAIN. Woof...that was...heart stopping. I had to look away during those scenes.

One thing I was REALLY impressed with - the Eye of Sauron. Seeing it dart about and powerful enough to shoot a ray around for miles. I thought that was REALLY neat.

So...personally...I like Fellowship the best of all three. I'm sure as a "miniseries" of all the (extended) movies threaded together, the Neverending Battle won't bother me as much.

Four out of Five. I'd add a star if they took out a bit of the battle, and added a bit more of the Ring Story, instead of the King Story.
