I remember when I first got my Powerbook, and two guys from #mortalkombat (Agilo and Garret, specifically) asked me if I was going to put Linux on it. My response was, "Why? OS X does everything I need Linux to do."
Garret replied, "But... Linux on a Powerbook is sexy. :("
I then told him how I looked at it: the difference between Mac OS X and Linux on a Powerbook is like the difference between Charlize Theron as a supermodel and in the movie Monster. They're both fundamentally the same entity, but one is a hell of a lot easier on the eyes. ;-)
For the record, I consider Mac OS X to be a much better desktop UNIX than Linux. If you use Linux and love it as a desktop, great. More power to you. I'm a longtime Linux admin, and even I get pissed off getting Linux to do what I want to do on the desktop. Mac OS X is FAR more hassle-free, and it Just Works(tm).
