The first five minutes to Richard Donner's version of Superman II are now online - frankly, I like this a LOT better than "Oops, I tripped over a bear."

Wow, this is the first I've actually heard about this. And despite the fact that its been years since I've really watched the second movie, that is pretty exciting. Guess I need to try and watch it again in the next few months and then get the new one. Could be pretty cool.

I'm a huge fan of Movie Archaeology. Superman II and ST:TMP are the most interesting. There was a 1978 TV Series called Star Trek Phase II that was the origin of ST:TMP, and the episode the movie was based on was amazingly cool (with a farted away ending, though). I spent a lot of time trying to get info on that, and finally got it with a book they released not too long ago (There's also two sets of special effects for that movie, one you saw, and one, not so good....)

Superman II, though, was truly two different movies. Richard Donner filmed about 80% of Superman II, which was then completely refilmed by Richard Lester. Only scenes with Gene Hackman are from the original footage (and the battle on the moon). I've always found Superman II to be really campy, more so than Superman I. I'm glad to see a non-campy version of S2 is coming out. :)
